Spring Term 2012

On Friday 23rd March 2012, Reception Class went to RHS Harlow Carr to complete their topic of Growth.

The children learnt all about seeds and seed cases, they went on a seed hunt and listened to a story under the largest plant that grows on this planet!

We also had a lot of fun looking at birds feeding in the bird hide and making journey sticks.

The highlight of the day was when we got to plant our very own Italian lettuce to bring back to school. It should be ready to eat by next term!

We took part in a storytelling session with students from Challenge College. The children had the opportunity to listen to four stories, written by the sixth form students. The children in Reception class talked about the characters and the bit that they liked the most in the stories that they heard. It was a great morning.

Thank you to Jo Hackett and her students.

We have started to change into our full PE kit so that we can use all the wonderful apparatus safely.

We love the ropes and the climbing tables.

We have been learning all about winter and the seasons.

We have been listening to the story ‘One Snowy Night’ by Nick Butterworth. We counted some mice in our shoes (that’s where they sleep in the story)!

Autumn Term 2011

This term Reception Class have been learning all about The Senses and Celebrations.

We went on a ‘Senses’ walk to the park where we used our eyes to see all the different things and our ears to listen to new sounds.

We used our sense of smell and taste when we made some delicious buns and chocolate buttons.

We have also been learning about religious celebrations. We had a special day to celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali with Seema from the Bradford Interfaith Centre. We also celebrated Eid by coming to school in our Eid clothes.

This week we have been learning about Harvest and the Harvest Festival.

We made some bread and shared it in our class.

We learnt that Christians say thank you to God for all the food. We had fun making the bread and kneading the dough.
