We are Beech Class!
The adults in Beech Class are Miss Shoukat and Mrs Ali (Monday morning).
What are we learning about this year?
In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value and the four operations. We will be learning different physical, pictorial and abstract methods for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. We will be consolidating our timestable knowledge and improving our fluency when recalling timestable facts daily.
In English, we will explore a number of texts. These will include Lila and the Secret of Rain, The Last Wolf, Inside the Villains, Orion and the Dark, The Flower and Queen Victoria’s Bathing Machine.
In History, we will be exploring what life was like in Saltaire in the past, learning about Titus Salt, The Great Fire of London and Queens who have reigned in England.
In Geography, we will be exploring the different climates and comparing the city of Bradford to the city of Islamabad.
As part of PSHE, we will be learning about what makes a good friend, what bullying is and the different types of bullying. We will also learn about the different jobs people do in and around Shipley and think about what jobs we might want to do when we grow up. This will include some visits from different people, explaining what their jobs entails. We will also have a visit from Juliet at SCARF to learn more about our feelings.
In Art, we will exploring landscape drawings, paintings and collages. We will be developing pencil, paint and photography techniques. We will be focusing on local artist David Hockney learning about his life as an artist and creating some artwork inspired by him.
In RE, we will be exploring a number of questions including how should we care for the world and why does it matter and what is the good news Jesus brings? We will be visiting Shipley Baptist Church to find out how they help our local community and a Synagogue to learn more about the beliefs held by Jewish people.
In Science, we will be exploring different habitats and the life cycles of different animals. We will also be learning about what we as humans need to stay healthy and grow. We will be developing our understanding of the environment and how we can help to look after it.
We will have a Road Safety workshop, a Great Fire of London art workshop, a Historical Character Workshop and a SCARF Feelings workshop. We will have visits from a variety of workers across Shipley, including Blue Watch and police officers. We will be visiting Shipley Baptist Church, Cartwright Hall for a Hockney Techniques workshop, a Synagogue and Skipton Castle. In addition to this, we will have a Kings and Queens Theme Day in school.
