What are we learning about this year?
In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value and the four operations. We will be learning the formal methods for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. We will be consolidating using our key learning to learn: fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio, and algebra.
In English, we will explore a number of texts linked to our writing units. These will include Malala's Magic Pencil, The Highwayman, The Whitby Witches, and The Night Diary.
In History, we will be exploring what life was like in Ancient Egypt, the legacy of The Early Islamic Civilisation, and The Partition of India.
In Geography, we will be finding out about biomes, climate change, The Americas and the journey of the River Aire.
As part of PSHE, we will learn how to keep ourselves safe online and how to keep ourselves healthy; we will learn about the law surrounding drugs and alcohol, and how to keep ourselves around them. We will also have a visit from Juliet at SCARF to find out about how our bodies will grow and change as we get older.
In Art, we will exploring Portraits. We will be developing pencil and paint techniques. We will be recreating a variety of portraits using different mediums, including: sketching pencils, charcoal, acrylic and watercolour paints, and collage materials.
In RE, we will be exploring a number of questions including the ways in which religion can help people through tough times. We will be building on learning from previous groups, to consider how we can respect different faiths and understand our own beliefs about Creation and God.
In Science, we will be exploring Evolution, Classification, the Circulatory System, Electricity and Light.
We will have a 2-night residential in the summer term; we will be developing our independence and teamwork skills whilst orienteering, completing obstacle courses and participating in team challenges. We will also be visiting Bradford Cathedral as part of the Year 6 Leavers Service, and completing workshops with the Zephaniah Trust to celebrate the Christmas story and prepare ourselves for transition to Year 7.
