Welcome to Year 1.
We are Willow Class!
The adults in Willow Class are Miss Ahmed, Miss Moore and Miss Bardon.
What are we learning about this half term (Summer 1)?
In Maths, we are continuing to develop our place value knowledge of numbers within 50. We will also be exploring measure and looking at standard and non-standard units of measure.
In English, we are reading The Tiger Who Came To Tea. Our initial hook will be based upon the tea party in the story.
In Phonics, we will be continuing to develop our reading skills through blending and segmenting words and sounds.
In PHSE, we are learning about the different people in society who help us. We will be exploring the text Emergency and finding out about the different jobs people do including police officers, firefighters, doctors, dentists and nurses.
In Geography, we are exploring the UK. We will be finding out about different geographical features.
In Science, we are investigating plants. We will be learning key vocabulary including the parts of the plants and how plants grow from a seed,
In RE, we are learning about Islam. We will be thinking about what life is like to be a Muslim and what the key beliefs in the religion.

What were we learning about last half term (Spring 2)?
In Maths, we were developing our key skills in addition and subtraction. We were also focusing on shape and place value within 50. By the end of the half term, we were able to recall our number facts with fluency!
In English, we explored the text Once There Were Giants. Our initial hook was based upon parts of the illustrations of the text and words taken from the blurb.
In Phonics, we developed our reading skills through blending and segmenting words and sounds.
In PHSE, we developed our understanding of money. We explored what we can do with money in our everyday lives. We also participated in a SCARF workshop about how our feelings change and can be managed.
In History, we explored our school and how it has changed from the past to the present.
In Science, we investigated seasonal changes from Spring to Summer. We developed our scientific knowledge of the changes in the seasons, the weather and the clothes we wear through a Spring Hunt in the school grounds.
In RE, we focused on Salvation and why Easter is important to Christians. We took part in the EYFS and KS1 Easter Celebration for parents and carers.
